Assalamu Alaikum,
dear sister,
Have you ever paused to ask yourself, “Who am I, really?” or “What is my purpose in this world?” These questions often come during quiet moments or when life nudges us to look deeper within. Self-discovery is a journey not of becoming someone new, but of uncovering the person Allah created you to be.
Begin with Allah
True self-discovery starts with knowing Allah. When you reflect on His beautiful names and attributes, you begin to understand your own purpose. Allah says in the Quran:
“And in yourselves. Then will you not see?”
(Surah Adh-Dhariyat, 51:21)
Reflecting on this reminds us that within us are signs of His greatness and our potential to fulfill our role as His servants.
Listen to Your Heart
Our hearts often whisper truths about who we are and where we need to grow, but the noise of the world can drown it out. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Righteousness is that which your soul feels at ease with and your heart feels tranquil about, and sin is that which wavers in your soul and causes uneasiness in your chest, even if people give you a ruling to the contrary.”
(Sahih Muslim, Book 32, Hadith 6195)
This hadith reminds us to listen to the inner guidance Allah places within us, especially when making choices that impact our spiritual growth.
Embrace Growth
Self-discovery isn’t always comfortable. It might mean acknowledging weaknesses or letting go of habits that no longer serve you. But remember, growth is a mercy from Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“The wise person is the one who holds himself accountable and works for what comes after death.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Book 37, Hadith 2459)
Growth, however small, is always worth the effort.
Surround Yourself with Good Company
A powerful way to develop yourself is to surround yourself with people who uplift you.
“The believer to the believer is like a solid building, each part supporting the other.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 4671)
As stated in this Hadith it is important to keep friends, Sisters who remind you of Allah, encourage you to strive for better, and support you through the highs and lows of this journey.
Be Gentle with Yourself
Self-discovery and development take time. You’re not meant to figure it all out overnight. Celebrate the little wins, forgive yourself for the mistakes, and trust that Allah is guiding you every step of the way.
Remember, this journey isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress and connection; connection to Allah, to your purpose, and to yourself. Take it one step at a time, and trust that you are exactly where you’re meant to be right now.
With love and duas,
Chai with Soul Unraveled
